    • Coordinate with Directors and firm leadership on strategic planning and visioning and set clear business strategy for the landscape architecture department.
    • Collaborate with project managers and design team to develop systems of organization.
    • Mentor staff in professional growth, development, and career advancement; advocate for landscape architecture at Timmons Group.

    Marketing and Business Development (10-15%)

    • Develop design proposals for private development work.
    • Develop responses to public RFPs and qualifications-based proposals and prepare presentations and interview for prospective work.
    • Assist Marketing and Director to build Timmons Group brand recognition, positioning, and impact through business development, awards, and market awareness.
    • Build and maintain strong A/E partnerships and teaming relationships to position for strategic projects and pursuits.

    Administrative Management, Marketing, and Training (10-20%)

    • Attend weekly and monthly meetings to coordinate projects and workplans.
    • Review project budgets, coordinate billing and invoicing, and analyze monthly reports.
    • Participate in recruitment, training, and onboarding of new employees.
    • Engage in training and professional development opportunities.

    Skills/Requirements of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:

    • Bachelor or Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited program.
    • A minimum of 12 years’ professional experience in landscape architecture is preferred.
    • Professional registration as a Virginia Licensed Landscape Architect or ability to obtain reciprocity quickly.
    • Team player with excellent design, graphic, communication, and presentation skills.
    • Well organized and detail oriented.
    • Experience in producing high-quality concept presentations and documentation sets.
    • Experience of project accounting and demonstrated ability to manage project schedules and budgets.

    The Henrico County Department of Planning has an opening for County Planner in the Development Review and Design Division, which focuses on the review of landscape, lighting, site plan and urban design projects to ensure compliance with county zoning ordinance, site standards, and design guidelines. Duties include preparation of alternative designs for plan review projects that provide solutions during the review process relating to site design, grading and drainage, landscaping and buffering requirements, fencing and lighting; and occasional preparation of landscape plans for special projects.

    Requires knowledge and an ability to analyze and apply the principles of planning and urban design, landscape architecture, and site plan and subdivision processes. Reviews and analyzes detailed engineered plans of development, subdivision plans, and architectural plans, for conformity with county codes and regulations, zoning proffers, good planning and engineering principles, and county development policies and procedures. Coordinates the review process for site plans with other county, state, and federal agencies and private corporations. Chairs staff/developer conferences attended by developers and their representatives as well as other reviewing agencies, and prepares and occasionally presents staff reports on plan reviews and staff recommendations to the Planning Commission at public hearings.

    Excellent written and oral presentation skills are required and experience presenting at municipal hearings is desirable.  Position requires a significant amount of interaction with citizens, developers, engineers, various state and county agencies, county administration, the Planning Commission, and the Board of Supervisors. Training and experience in landscape design, site construction, and land use practices including the ability to read and interpret detailed site construction, architectural, landscape and lighting plans, is essential. Possession of a degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning, or Urban Design with emphasis on landscape design, as well as PLA licensure or AICP certification, is preferred.
