    The Henrico County Department of Planning has an opening for a Planner IV in the Development Review and Design Division, which supervises professional planners and focuses on the review of detailed engineered plans, plans of development, subdivision plans, architectural plans, landscape plans, lighting plans, and building permit applications for conformity with County codes, regulations and policies, zoning proffers, the Comprehensive Plan, and good planning and engineering practices.  This position also manages the technical review of complex urban planning and Fast Track (high priority) projects. These responsibilities require increased knowledge of enterprise land management systems and electronic plan review software.  The position requires significant interaction with various state and county agencies, county administration, the Planning Commission, and the Board of Supervisors.  Attendance at public meetings or participation in work-related activities outside of regular working hours (evenings) may be required.

    Challenge and Responsibility

    As a Landscape Architect at VIA, you are challenged daily to lead a team of designers and guide design decisions that result in great spaces while meeting the goals of our clients. You are responsible for generating landscape and site design concepts for projects of various scales and sizes, assessing site potential and environmental impacts, leading the vision for site design, implementing sustainable design ideas, and executing construction documents that bring the project to life. A Landscape Architect is expected to build and maintain relationships with the design team and clients to achieve consistent, successful results.  

    Skills and Role Requirements

    -        Professional degree and active licensure as a Landscape Architect

    -        Proven experience leading a team through design and construction to project completion

    -        Strong design and technical skills

    -        The ability to communicate design intent effectively through sketching and digital production

    -        A collaborative mindset and flexibility to work in a multidisciplinary design environment

    -        Fluency in AutoCAD and Adobe Creative Suite

    -        Experience collaborating with Revit (BIM), LandFX, and 3d StudioMax

    -        Knowledge of coastal resilience and integral stormwater management strategies

    -        Clear presentation, graphic, written, and verbal communication skills

    • Coordinate with Directors and firm leadership on strategic planning and visioning and set clear business strategy for the landscape architecture department.
    • Collaborate with project managers and design team to develop systems of organization.
    • Mentor staff in professional growth, development, and career advancement; advocate for landscape architecture at Timmons Group.

    Marketing and Business Development (10-15%)

    • Develop design proposals for private development work.
    • Develop responses to public RFPs and qualifications-based proposals and prepare presentations and interview for prospective work.
    • Assist Marketing and Director to build Timmons Group brand recognition, positioning, and impact through business development, awards, and market awareness.
    • Build and maintain strong A/E partnerships and teaming relationships to position for strategic projects and pursuits.
